Facebook redesign and Google+ open to all
It has been an eventful month in the world of Social Marketing. Two of the hottest topics have been the proposed Facebook redesign and the new social platform Google+1 opening out to everyone to join.
Facebook Unveils ‘Timeline’ Profiles
At Facebook’s annual F8 conference on 22nd September in San Francisco, calling it the “new way to express who you are”, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed a new site design for Facebook and described how it would be focused on a “magazine-style” format called Timeline.
Timeline is a new-look version of the profile page and invites users to “tell the story of your life” and audio-visually represents your life journey through photos, video, music and maps.
As part of the new design, users will be able to see music their friends are listening to, content they are reading, movies they are watching and games they are playing, so they can hang out together and discuss and share content in real time.

Chris Cox, vice president of product management for Facebook described at the conference how infographics and visual company reports had inspired the idea of Timeline and the concept of what a report like that on one person's life would look like.
Google+ available to everyone
After two and a half months of testing with a select trial user base, last month Google rolled out its Google+ social network service to everyone.
To support the launch, Google has added some new features to Google+. ‘Hangouts’ will be available on any smart phone using the Google Android system and lets you hang out with up to nine friends at a time. Google+ will also allow you to share screen content with other people in your Google ‘circle’. And finally, Google is making search more social by integrating search results with Google+. So if you are wondering what that restaurant was called that your friend was raving about last week or who’s got some good tips on ballroom dancing or what it’s like to be at the World Cup, Search brings you updates from your circles, news from around the web and public Google+ posts, giving you instant access to the topics you care about and the people who care about them along with you.
